McKenzie Strickland Associates (MSA Architects) have played a pivotal role in the design of Taymouth Marina’s luxury self-catering apartments and townhouses for over 14 years.
Situated on the picturesque banks of Loch Tay in the Scottish Highlands, this project holds special significance for MSA Principal Eric Strickland, who co-founded the Marina in 2010 with wife, Naomi Strickland.
Taymouth Marina is renowned for its modern, clean lines and sumptuous furnishings, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Loch Tay and Ben Lawers. The Marina is equipped with a range of amenities, including the award-winning HotBox Spa, a watersports and activities centre, and the Ferryman’s Inn gastro bar and restaurant.
Design Details:
The design of Taymouth Marina by MSA Architects is deeply inspired by the loch’s stunning natural setting. The contemporary design of the apartments and houseboats integrates seamlessly with the Highland Perthshire landscape. Many accommodations feature private hot tubs, enhancing comfort for today’s discerning and active holidaymakers.
A notable feature of Taymouth Marina is its use of timber cladding throughout the exterior of the buildings – a choice that is unusual for a structure with up to four storeys, including mezzanine floors. This decision by MSA not only reduces the carbon footprint by avoiding blockwork and render but also introduces various painted timber palettes to break up the mass of the buildings.
Each unit boasts large windows that frame stunning views of Loch Tay and the surrounding hills, while the design and colour palette harmoniously blend with the natural beauty of the surroundings. The use of natural materials and textures ensures that the buildings complement the picturesque environment.
The design incorporates significant 4-meter overhangs, creating sheltered outdoor seating and covered hot tub areas.
Lead architect on the Taymouth Marina project, Eric Strickland commented:
“In designing Taymouth Marina, we have focused on what our guests want – comfort, nature, and amazing experiences! Every component of our design represents quality and aspiration, blending modern elegance with Loch Tay’s splendour. From expansive rooms to panoramic vistas, we’ve created a welcoming place where guests can unwind and be inspired.”
